Dr. Mark J. Weimer is a fourth generation California native. Born and raised in Northern California, he spent a lot of time on the family ranch in San Joaquin Valley. By age seven, he was assisting his veterinarian uncle with spays and neuters of farm cats. His compassion for animals and willingness to learn had launched, headed for a career in veterinary medicine.
Mark graduated from University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology. He then ventured southeast, his first time ever east of Virginia City, Nevada and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine.
As a new veterinarian, he returned to California. He was an associate at animal hospitals in Carmel, Chatsworth, Big Bear and Long Beach. In 1992, Dr. Weimer was recruited to South Shores Pet Clinic . He had found his permanent work place. He and his fiancee Christine would call San Pedro home. Marine Mammal Care Center at Fort MacArthur selected Dr. Weimer to provide comprehensive medical and surgical care to sick and injured seals, sea lions, and dolphins. Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific entrusted him to provide veterinary medical and surgical care for the fish, reptiles, and birds.
In 2019, Dr. Weimer and his wife Christine became sole owners of South Shores Pet Clinic. They have twin sons, Wills and Harrison, who have worked at the clinic since age 14. Dr. Wills is an associate veterinarian here at South Shores Pet Clinic and Harrison is an attorney practicing in Philadelphia. Their daughter Ava can be seen greeting clients or filing, along with their Newfoundland. Outside of the clinic, Dr. Weimer enjoys family time, camping, fishing, cultivating his vegetable garden, car restoration, woodworking and being at the BBQ. Dr. Weimer’s mission at South Shores Pet Clinic, and for his life, is to use his talents, education, and training, to benefit others. In responding to a late-night call to care for a sick patient or repairing a torn ACL, or saving an animal post trauma or delivering new life or promoting wellness and preventing disease, he always strives to provide the highest level of veterinary medicine to his patients and clients.
